The Public Works Department's primary responsibility is to maintain the County Road system by seal coating, asphalt overlays, snow removal, etc. Public Works also performs small construction projects and a variety of drainage projects throughout Grant County. Larger construction projects are put out to bid and contracted outside the department.
Services:
Public Works provides information on county roads and bridges, permits for access to County roads and culvert placement, oversize motor vehicle permits, work in the right-of-way and dust oil palative permits. We also coordinate with other County departments on development revisions.
Staff:
The department consists of over 100 employees responsible for road maintenance, engineering, recycling, solid waste, motor pool and administrative operations.

ADMINISTRATION:
Grant County Public Works Administration and Accounting support and serve all divisions of Public Works by maintaining centralized cost accounting functions, oversight and direct support of departmental personnel activities, preparation and submission of internal and externally required reports, and interpretation and distribution of emerging legislative and policy information.

ENGINEERING:
Grant County Public Works Engineering Division provides technical and administrative oversight of all county
transportation infrastructure and assets and their utilization. They also conduct or administer research and provide information and technical support to other county divisions, departments, and the public concerning roads, bridges, drainage, surveys, monuments, subdivisions, and rights-of-way. Engineering Administration's top priority is service to the public and fulfilling public requests for information regarding
road and right-of-way related issues .

The Engineering Division covers Grant County's 2,675 square mile area by administering the management of
2,533 county road miles and 320 county bridges.
SOLID WASTE:
The Solid Waste Division of Public Works is responsible for several program areas encompassing waste prevention, economically efficient recycling and disposal systems, litter control, hazardous waste education and disposal opportunities. This division of two staff achieves these goals through the administration of several Washington Department of Ecology (DOE) grants and contracts with other agencies.

Grant County is divided into 3 major Road Districts. Each district is responsible for the maintenance of their district with a broad range of annual projects including gravel to oil programs, snow removal, to grading and mowing.

TRAFFIC DIVISION:
The county-wide duties of the Traffic Control Section include sign placement, paint striping, road system inventories and vandalism repair.
